A suicide attack has killed at least six people in the Afghan capital of Kabul, officials said. Four foreign nationals were among the wounded.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes after months of relative calm in Kabul. The Taliban and militants from the Islamic State group regularly target Afghan forces.
“This morning at around 7am, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives … killing five people including two civilians and three military personnel. Twelve were wounded, including five civilians”, said a spokesman for the ministry of interior.
“It was a big explosion that rocked our house. We also heard gunfire afterwards. Ambulances rushed to the area quickly”, a witness said.
The military academy has been the target of several attacks in the past, including an Islamic State-claimed assaults.
The US have been negotiating on ending the 18-year war in Afghanistan. The negotiations have been interrupted at least twice after Taliban attacks on US military personnel in September and December.
The latest attack, however, shows violence has continued, despite the fact that in recent weeks the Taliban have refrained from attacking major urban centres.
