Iran’s Deputy Health Minister, Iraj Harirchi was tested positive for Coronavirus and is kept under quarantine, a Health Ministry spokesperson has confirmed.
The test results were announced a day after the Minister took part in a televised news conference, during which, he coughed and appeared pale and to be sweating.
In a video posted on Twitter, published by Fars news agency, Harirchi said he was infected, but he will “certainly defeat corona,” while he placed himself in isolation.
So far, 16 people have died from COVID-19 in Iran, the largest death toll outside China. The Health Ministry’s spokesperson, Kianoush Jahanpour has urged Iranians to stay at home, as new cases constantly occur.
New outbreaks in Europe and the Middle East are growing fears over a global pandemic, with Iran refusing to publicise the exact number of people quarantined.
