Kazakhstan bans all public events due to coronavirus

NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan – In response to the coronavirus, Kazakhstan has imposed a ban on all public events, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on 12 March.
“WHO (World Health Organization) has announced a coronavirus pandemic. The government is launching special preventive measures. Public events are being canceled. There will be no interruptions in the supply of citizens with food and essential goods,” Tokayev wrote in a tweet.
“In connection with the coronavirus, since March 13, a ban has been imposed on all mass events – sports, cultural, spectacular – mass, as well as exhibitions,” Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Eraly Tugzhanov told a press conference on 12 March. He noted that Kazakhstan has so far reported no coronavirus cases.
In addition, Deputy Investment and Development Minister Berik Kamaliev said Kazakhstan has recused the number of direct international flights.
The Kazakhstan authorities said the spring break at schools would start on 16 March to 5 April, and colleges and universities would switch to distance learning.
Kazakhstan Health Minister Kazakhstan is reducing the frequency of flights to Western European nations, the United Arab Emirates and Belarus, officials said.
