NBA star Kobe Bryant has died in Calabasas, California, following a helicopter crash, local media sources reported.
He was travelling in his private helicopter when it went down and a fire broke out. Four other people on board also died. The investigation is still ongoing.
Bryant frequently traveled via private helicopter. His wife, Vanessa Bryant was not among those on board. They have four children together. It looks like his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, was also killed. Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, whom he also called Gigi, were reportedly on their way to his Mamba Academy for a basketball practice when their helicopter crashed. The Academy is located in Thousand Oaks, an affluent suburb of Los Angeles. Kobe coached his daughter’s AAU basketball team, which are known as “the Mambas”.
Bryant, who retired in 2016 , spent his 20-year career entirely with the Los Angeles Lakers. He joined the NBA right after graduating from high school. He is the third all-time scorer in the NBA and won five NBA championships.
Last night, he was in Philadelphia to watch LeBron James pass him for third on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
“Continuing to move the game forward @KingJames. Much respect my brother”, Bryant wrote in his last tweet.
