Ukraine’s prime minister Oleksy Honcharuk submitted his resignation on Tuesday for the second time within two months.
During a special session on Wednesday, the country’s parliament voted to accept his resignation as part of a government reshuffle. 353 out of 450 lawmakers voted in favor of the resignation. The finance and foreign minister could also be replaced as part of the cabinet shuffle.
The parliament later voted for Honcharuk to be replaced by deputy prime minister Denis Shmygal, who had previously served as head of the regional administration in the Ivano-Frankivsk region before taking on the deputy role last month.
It is still unclear why Honcharuk submitted his resignation for the second time. There was no immediate comment from Honcharuk or president Volodymyr Zelensky.
Honcharuk was involved in a scandal after the leak of an audio recording that suggested he had criticized Zelensky in a closed meeting with the finance minister. Following the leak, Honcharuk submitted his resignation, but Zelensky gave him one more chance to stay.
