Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signalled a potential reshuffle of his government on Wednesday.
Local media said the shuffle could include dismissing prime minister Oleksy Honcharuk in favour of businessman and veteran politician Serhiy Tihipko.
“I am conducting interviews with many people now. And I also met with Mr. Tihipko. It’s true”, Zelensky told reporters.
Confidence in Zelensky’s government has slid since last year, when he scored a surprise landslide election victory and promised to end corruption, as well as the war with Russian-backed rebels in the eastern Donbass region.
According to a newly published report, Zelensky’s public trust score has fallen from 79% in September to 51% in February.
Tihipko has been deputy prime minister twice, in 1997 under president Leonid Kuchma, and in 2010 under president Viktor Yanukovich. He has also been central bank governor and co-founded PrivatBank, the former Soviet republic’s largest lender.
Tihipko has not commented whether he had been offered the prime minister’s post.
