Boyko Borissov, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister met with EU Council President Charles Michel, at the institution’s headquarters in Brussels on Thursday.
EU funds from the Multiannual Financial Framework for 2021-2027 topped the discussion ahead of the Special European Council on February 20-21, with Borissov saying that “EU funds are the engine that helps us move faster”.
According to the office of the Bulgarian government, the Bulgarian PM also highlighted the positive impact of the Cohesion and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) on European citizens’ lives and “emphasised the benefits of overcoming inequalities between different regions.”
Borissov added that “the fair transition package should not be linked in any way to the cohesion package, since the objectives of the two instruments differ substantially in their nature”.
The Bulgarian PM welcomed Europe’s commitment to the Western Balkans, stressing that the enlargement is a “two-way process” and that both sides need to fulfil their promises.
