Tikhanovskaya asks OSCE to help her return safely to Belarus

Belarus opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya has asked for the help of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) for her safe return to Belarus and for the organisation of new and free elections in the country.

“Together with the international community, I would like to find ways to safely return to Belarus. Since two criminal cases were initiated against me with an interstate wanted list, these should be special guarantees for my return,” Tikhanovskaya said according to a post in her website, citing the recent developments with Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, which demonstrated the need for the support of the international community.

Her comments followed an online meeting with EU ambassadors to OSCE on Monday, during which, Tikhanovskaya offered OSCE to undertake the organization of an inclusive dialogue to resolve the crisis in Belarus.

She added that OSCE could help organise “new free elections according to international standards and under international supervision”

“We expect to hold the elections in 45 days, and we need help with this,” the Belarus opposition leader and former presidential candidate said.
