China reported zero new cases of domestic transmissions of the COVID-19 for the first time since the virus emerged in the region of Hubei and its capital, Wuhan.
Yet, concerns over a second wave of imported infections are raised.
According to the National Health Commission, on Wednesday 34 new cases were recorded in the country, recorded from people who recently returnt from abroad. The Commission added that there were no new cases in the city of Wuhan where the virus originated.
The Wuhan city government has announced a rollback in movement restrictions provided that group gatherings are avoided, while some businesses were given permission to resume work.
At the same time, international border closures and the growing number of travelers seeking to return to their home countries have sparked worries over a second wave of imported coronavirus infections.
In a bid to prevent this scenario, China’s leadership has increased screening and quarantine procedures for travelers coming from abroad.
Other Asian nations, including South Korea and Singapore, are also recording some dozens of imported cases.
