The doctor who gave Russia’s President Vladimir Putin a tour on Moscow’s hospital treating Coronavirus patients has tested positive for Covid-19.
“Dear friends, I’m really touched by your concerns. Yes, I’ve tested positive for the CoV, but I feel quite well. I’ve self-isolated at my office where I have everything needed for remote work, control and video consultations,” Denis Protsenko, chief doctor at Kommunarka hospital wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
The clinic’s chief welcomed Putin on March 24, and according to TV footage and Reuters’ reportage, neither of two was wearing protective equipment during the conversation, while during his visit to the hospital, the Russian President wore a hazmat suit and a respirator.
The announcement sparked fears that Putin might have contracted the virus, however, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, assured the media that this was not the case.
“[Putin] is regularly tested for coronavirus. Everything is normal,” Peskov said.
