Kazakhstan suspends visits of South Koreans

NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan – As of 8 March, Kazakhstan is suspending the entry of South Korean citizens into the country due of the coronavirus, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Industry and Infrastructure Development Minister Berik Kamaliev said on 5 March.
“Since March 8, the entry of South Korean citizens is suspended,” he told a briefing.  According to Kamaliev, the airlines of the two countries are informed that only Kazakh citizens will be allowed on flights.
The restriction will not affect official and government delegations, as well as owners of official and diplomatic passports, airline pilots and crew members, locomotive crews, persons associated with rail transportation, drivers engaged in international road transport of goods.
He noted that Kazakhstan included South Korea in the category of countries unsuccessful for coronavirus infection (category 1 “a”), earlier China and Iran were assigned to this category.
Persons arriving from these three countries will be quarantined upon return to Kazakhstan.
