NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg on Tuesday appointed a group of experts to study ways to further strengthen the political dimension of the alliance.
The creation of the group was agreed in the leaders’ meeting in London last year. NATO said that the group of five men and five women will offer recommendations to reinforce its unity, increase political consultation and coordination between allies, and strengthen NATO’s political role.
The group, which will report to Stoltenberg, will engage with Allied capitals and the North Atlantic Council, NATO’s decision making body, and other relevant stakeholders.
Members of the group include Anna Fotyga from Poland, Greta Bossenmaier from Canada, Anja Dalgaard-Nielsen from Denmark, Hubert Vedrine from France, Thomas de Maizière from Germany, Marta Dassu from Italy, Herna Verhagen from the Netherlands, Tacan Ildem from Turkey, John Bew from the United Kingdom, and Wess Mitchell from the United States.
