A staff member working at NATO headquarters in Brussels has been tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently at home, in self-isolation, NATO’s spokesperson, Oana Lungescu, announced on Monday.
The staff member had returned from holidays in Northern Italy and after s/he started having the virus’ symptoms at the end of last week , s/he took the test.
NATO has informed all staff on the confirmed case, encouraging them to work from home and has temporary suspended certain staff travel and group visits to Brussels’ headquarters.
The European Defence Agency (EDA) was the first case of Coronavirus in the EU institutions, followed by the EU Council. Meetings due to be held at the EDA’s premises were cancelled, in contrary to the Council’s, as the institution is holding a number of extraordinary meetings amid recent developments in the Greek-Turkish border and the COVID-19 spread across Europe.
